LATEST ANNOUNCEMENT

Date:  5/24/25 - NEW ANNOUNCEMENT - AMMENDED TOUR SCHEDULE FOR 2025

The tours for 2025 will be limited.  As this is mainly a “labor of love” and as devoted as I am to the personal family historical perspective I provide at Shiloh, this effort is secondary to my primary vocation of historical restorations.  I am a licensed contractor of historical trades, and this year is my busiest yet.  As a result, for now, I have paused my tour efforts.  This DOES NOT mean there will be no tours this year.  I am just going to facilitate them in a different manner.

If you desire a personalized tour from Walking Home, please contact me.  Email is the best method.  You are also free to call me at the number listed here on the site.  However, email is a better method for me.  I will make every effort to work with you on settling a date for a tour that meets your timetable.

If you have a party of four to six, I will arrange a private tour.  Lunch will be your responsibility.  I recommend packing a picnic lunch as food options are very limited at Shiloh.

If you have a party of seven or larger, I will arrange catering a BBQ lunch which will be held at the park’ picnic pavilion.

The minimum group size for this amended tour season is 4, the largest group size must not exceed 30 individuals.

Thank you for your understanding as I work through the logistical challenges of 2025.

Date:  10/06/23 - SATURDAY OCTOBER 14 TOUR.  The Shiloh walking tour has been rescheduled.  Time and date will be announced at a later date.

Date:  8/20/23 - CHARTER TRANSPORTATION

At present there are NO charter trips to any of the tour venues.  Currently, all tour events are POV (Privately Owned Vehicle) events.  You must arrange your own transportation to and from the event site.  At some point in the future I hope to have this situation resolved and provide round trip transportation to and from the event sites beginning with a Middle Tennessee base established in Columbia and expanding outward as resources enable expansion.

Date:  7/01/23 - TOUR VENUES

Currently the only tour being offered is Shiloh - "Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war."  This is the main focus of all our effort at Walking Home.  Two other events, Fort Donelson and Corinth, are planned for the future.  Fort Donelson is currently undergoing heavy renovation of it's facilities at this time making it impractical to offer a tour there at this time.  The goal for an event at Corinth is to do an overnight event focused on the downtown area, the Hamilton Mask home, and culminating the next day with the tour at Shiloh.  Both events are in the planning stages.

Date:  6/01/23 - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

A small part of the tour at Shiloh is a walk across an uncultivated hay field.  At Fort Donelson the tour along the river follows a path through a high grass area and a wooded area as well.  Prepare accordingly as there are chiggers and ticks that will latch on to your ankles.  Wearing high socks and simply spraying some insect repellant on your shoes and ankle area will help keep them off of you.
